During the course of each year, we go through certain events or celebrations that remind us where we are in that calendar year. For some people, they look forward to these times and others may see them going by too quickly. We make our New Year’s resolutions as we begin January. We celebrate Martin Luther King Day and then all the hoopla of the Super Bowl. Groundhog’s Day and Mardi Gras may give some people either a reprieve from winter or a cold reminder. I could go on, but I think you know what I am talking about. In our Liturgical Year, we have celebrations that mark Feasts and Seasons. We celebrated Mary, Mother of God on January 1st and then after the Baptism of the Lord, we moved into Ordinary Time. Ash Wednesday is coming up and this will move us into the Season of Lent.
What a great opportunity to re-examine our lives during the 40 days of Lent.
Scroll through the website and see some of the opportunities for spiritual growth. My prayer for all of you is that we all can grow closer to Christ. We remember the traditional disciplines of Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. St. Mary Parish will offer further opportunities to grow in faith. Whether we come for the Stations of the Cross or come to the Parish Mission or come for Mass on Wednesday evenings, we are invited to grow closer to Christ. Prayerfully discern how you want to “die to yourself” so you can experience the Resurrection of Christ Our Savior with new life. Jesus is inviting you to enter this Lenten Season and make a change. How will you respond?
